TOPIC: A SINGLE THAT PLEASED GOD
TEXT: ICORINTHIANS 7:7

1 Being single is a gift according to Apostle Paul. The
state of being singles is a gift. As a
single it is not a second best ,marriage is good, but your singlehood is even
better so you should appreciate it when
you are in that state, and don’t waste it while it lasts because it ias not
forever
2. There are two advantages of being single in 1 cor 1:7
a) single people are spared the troubles of marriage. There
many blessings in marriage but there are also some difficulties.
i. Freedom of singlehood: this is where you think of yourself
first becomes a thing of the past you we
have to think of the other person.
ii) Single person can devote themselves to work for God
fully without distraction. An unmarried man or woman is concerned about the
Lord’s affairs how he /she can please lord. But a married man/woman is
concerned about the affairs of this world- how it can pleased his wife or her
husband and his interests are divided (1 cor 7:32-34).
3. Singleness is hard- when God saw Adam on his own in the
gardened of Eden he said “it is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a
helper suitable for him” (Gen 2:18) so Eve was created for Adam, this need for
companionship God instituted marriage, whereby sexual relationship is allowed.
Single people are likely to struggle with loneliness and sexual temptation. The
lonelier a single is, he/she struggles with sexual fantasy and fall into sin.(1
cor 6:18)
4. Singleness is not permanent many who are single today
will soon be married. Many ladies often exclaim I cant wait for my wedding day
yes it will come just be patient. Even while waiting for marriage keep your eyes fixed on heaven and guard your
relationship with Christ diligently who is that single that pleases God or as a
single how can you please God ?
Every
single person who is a true Christian should have this goal to please God with
his or her life you should please God even with the choices you make, the
things you do on a daily basis.
At this point I wants you to ponder on this question who am
I pleasing with my life? Am I pleasing God with my actions or lifestyle
choices?
Let us look at 1Thessa. 4 vs 1, Its Pauls exhortation to us
to walk in a way that is pleasing God, Walk signifies your conduct, or what you
do everyday as a Christian should be
pleasing God. The rest of the passage from Vs 2-12 tells us the kind of
lifestyle that is pleasing to God which is expected of truly born again single
Understand this when you become born again you you have
become sanctified by God. Sanctification Means to be set apart { Dedicated to
God } This means that you are in a process of becoming holy even as God is
holy.
However the challenge for every
single is the struggle to remain holy or righteous in a materialistic and
morally corrupt society. So as a single your conduct {walk} must confirm to the
will of God.
1. The perfect area I will speak on is
pleasing God is the area of sex. 1 Thessa. 4 vs 3 , tells us that it is Gods
will that you should be sanctified {holy set apart}, and avoid sexual sin {
Immorality ), some of you are used to having boyfriend/Girlfriends before, you
don’t see anything wrong with having sex before marriage or losing your
virginity before marriage . some have many girlfriends/boyfriends at a time.
Now you hear a message that you must be holy in your body, that your body is
the temple of God so you must not defile it and you are worring if this is
possible. That’s why some brothers in the church
2. Another way to please God is have
integrity- saying the truth instead of lying, Brothers and Sisters always tells
lies in different ways, if a man does not have integrity because with him if he
asks you to marry him because with his lies that he will carry you to the altar
he will tell you that he has a Lexus jeep, his house is in Lekki, he is a Bank
manager, if you believe him you will enter one chance ooo
3. Modesty- Because you have become
born again, you have been bought with a price through the blood of Jesus, your
body is a temple of God so you cant do with it as you like . Modesty is decent
dressing with propriety as those who protests to follow Christ. 1Timothy 2 vs
9-10.
4. Your service to God:- this involves
growing spiritually, studying the word of God so that you will know the will of
God, what is right from wrong. Prayerfully developing fruits of the spirit Gal
5 vs 19- 23, 1Cor 7 vs 32 and being useful for God while single.
Many young people find it difficult
to serve in the church, but they can find fault with their leaders in the
church, meanwhile they are gifted, but they hide their talents. God created you
for a purpose and singlehood has a purpose to serve God and please Him.
